Cherokee is consistently an outstanding school in large part because of the involvement of our families. Volunteer’s gifts of time and talent are greatly valued and have a tremendous impact on our school. Please take a moment to read about the volunteer opportunities. There is an opportunity to match every talent and a task to match every schedule.
ARTS AND EDUCATION-
ART MASTERPIECE – Lead art presentations in the classroom and help students develop artist-inspired work to be displayed during the Cherokee Art Walk; all materials and background information is provided; variable number of hours from January-April, 2018.
ART WALK/OPEN HOUSE – Assist in hanging art work; perform assigned duties during the Art Walk Open House; Event is scheduled for April 26, 2018.
COLONIAL DAYS – Run various Colonial Day centers for this annual 5th grade event; directions and supplies are provided; this event is scheduled for Nov. 17, 2017 and is a full day commitment. All 5th grade parents are encouraged to participate.
5TH GRADE TILES – Assist in annual 5th grade tile project, including creation of tiles and installation.
COMMUNICATIONS/PR – Assist Communications chairperson by documenting Cherokee events and publicizing them in local newspapers; variable time commitment.
CREATIVE PROJECTS COORDINATOR – Create bulletin boards, rolling boards and event flyers to help promote Cherokee fundraising and events.
WEB MASTER – Assist with making edits to APT web site. Variable time commitment.
SOCIAL MEDIA – Assist with posting on our Facebook page. Variable time commitment.
NEW FAMILY LIAISON – Help welcome new families to the Cherokee Community and serve as a source of information for new families.
HOLIDAY ANGEL – Assist in distributing Holiday Angel cards during Thanksgiving BBQ (November 21); help coordinate and deliver gifts to recipient school; 1-2 hours the day of the Thanksgiving lunch and/or on day of delivery.
USED BOOK SALE – Help count and sort books during collection week. Help sell and organize books during the sale. Collection and set-up: September 27 – October 1 ~ Sale: October 4-6, 2017.
CAMPUS AND FACILITY-
GARDEN STEWARD – Help chairperson maintain the Cherokee courtyard gardens.
EDIBLE GARDEN – Help with establishing and maintaining the NEW edible garden.
FITNESS CHALLENGE – Work with the chairs to promote event, find sponsors, assist with organization for pep rally, Run, and after party.
FITNESS CHALLENGE – February 9, 2018 and Fitness Challenge Dance: January 26, 2018.
BOX TOPS – Help collect, sort and tally box tops; minimal time commitment.
COMMUNITY/PASSIVE FUNDRAISING – Assist in identifying, organizing, and promoting community fundraising events at area restaurants and shops. Also, help to establish partnerships with area supermarkets and other retailers.
Bids & Bubbles – Feeling lucky? Our main adult social event of the year that will include our live and online auction. April 14, 2018 at the Valley Ho.
Adult social event. A great way to get to know your fellow Cherokee families. Enjoy a casual evening hosted at a premier Estate in the valley with food, fun, and beverages. We hope to see you there!
UNCORKED & UNPLUGGED – Friday, September 22, 2017. Details to follow in backpacks and newsletter.
FALL FESTIVAL & TRUNK OR TREAT – Costume themed Movie night on the lawn – Sell food and help with coordination of movie and festivities – October 27, 2017.
FAMILY GAME NIGHT – Sell bingo tickets and food the night for the event; 2-3 hours.
April 2, 2018.
THANKSGIVING BBQ – Help serve Thanksgiving lunch to Cherokee students and families; 1-4 hours on November 21, 2017.
SPRING BBQ – Help serve BBQ to Cherokee students and families; 1-4 hours on March 22, 2018. We need dads for this event!!!!!
PICTURE DAYS – Keep students organized and gorgeous on picture days. August 24, 2017.
TEACHER APPRECIATION – Prepare items (such as salads, casseroles or baked goods) for Teacher Appreciation events; minimal time commitment. Week TBD
SPIRIT WEAR – Help chair promote spirit wear purchasing and then help distribute to classes: through September 4, 2017.
END OF YEAR VOLUNTEER HAPPY HOUR – Work with chair to organize event.
May 17, 2018.
YEARBOOK – Help assemble pages for the school yearbook; variable time commitment.
SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHER – Take photo’s at events for yearbook images; variable time.
SCHOOL SUPPORT –
TAX CREDIT CAMPAIGN – Assist with generation and distribution of fliers to publicize the importance of making a tax credit donation; variable hours during the year.
PARKING LOT – Expedite the carpool process during drop-off and pick-up; regularly scheduled times through the school year.
LIBRARY – Help Librarian shelve and maintain books; help students with selecting and checking out books; 1-2 regularly scheduled hours, once a week or every other week through the school year.
ART ROOM HELPERS – Assist art teacher in the classroom with students and between classes. Help organize art supplies.
CAFE ASSISTANCE – Assist cafeteria in the mornings to watch kids prior to lunch staff. Regular commitment on the same morning, each week, 8:15 – 8:45 am.
